Village gets new councillors

Clyde residents won’t have to go to the polls this month after all.

Village returning officer Annette Schwab declared an election by acclamation just after noon on Aug. 2, the nomination deadline, as just two candidates had submitted their paperwork to fill the two vacant seats.

Nat Dvernichuk and Neil Richard Olson will join the current Clyde council, and are scheduled to be sworn in at the regular meeting on Aug. 21.

A byelection was called to fill the seats vacated by Coun. Diana Vosseler and deputy mayor Bob Gault, who both resigned their positions within the last couple months. Vosseler tendered her resignation June 1, saying she had to resign as she was moving out of the village.

Gault tendered his resignation at a special council meeting on June 26. He said he also intends to move out of the community soon, and thought it would be best to tender his resignation early so that the village would only have to hold one byelection instead of two.

Neither of the two new councillors nor mayor Wayne Wilcox could be reached for comment. See an upcoming issue of the Westlock News for more details.
