Andrea Gibson and Charlene Dechaine were presented with the Exemplary Parent Volunteer Award at a Pembina school.
Daryl Chattargoon, principal at Pembina North Community School (PNCS), honoured these two exceptionally giving volunteers at the assembly in Dapp on June 20.
“It was completely unexpected and humbling,” said Gibson.
“It was great. We do it for the kids,” said Dechaine.
Pembina Hills School Division (PHSD) described Gibson and Dechaine as pillars of the community, dedicating their time and effort to support PNCS.
Both Gibson and Dechaine explained that they have been providing meals at various events and school programs and will continue to do so because of the reactions from the kids.
“Seeing kids with amazing spaghetti all over their faces or the smiling faces because they are excited for pancakes, that’s why we do it,” said Gibson.
“Kids love to get hot meals at school, and it is something I have always liked doing for the kids!”
Gibson and Dechaine have played a vital role in meal preparation and volunteering at numerous events at the school.
They are both also volunteers with the Jarvie Community Center, Fawcett AG Society and members of the Jarvie Community Council.
One of the events that PHSD highlighted is the annual PNCS Christmas Dinner each December. Gibson and Dechaine have purchased and prepared all the food for many a feast.
They also organize all the volunteers before, during and after these events to create a memorable time for students and staff.
Every month, they prepare the featured hot lunches that PNCS students love, and they also ensure there are enough volunteers for serving and cleaning up the meals.
Charlene and Andrea’s unwavering dedication to the school, its students, and the community is truly inspiring.
Their unending generous natures and willingness to selflessness things for others to enjoy makes them jewels to their communities and most deserving of the Exemplary Parent Volunteer Award.
Both Dechaine and Gibson were surprised by the award presentation.
“I thought my kids were getting something,” added Gibson.
