Daniel (Dan) Stewart Frederick Wiese

April 14, 1950 - February 27, 2021

It is with profound sadness and love we share the loss of Dan Wiese of Linaria Alberta. Dan passed away unexpectedly at home at the age of 70.

He was a content bachelor and was deeply loved and cared for by his family. He is survived by his brothers - Jim (Evelyn) Wiese; Max (Mary) Wiese; John (Barbara predeceased) Wiese. He was the favorite Uncle of many Nieces and Nephews - Susan Wiese (Stan); Cindy WIese (Kelly), Randall Wiese; Jody Wiese (Michael); Todd Wiese (Cynthia); Troy Wiese (Christine); Nikki Wiese (Stoney). There are numerous great nieces and nephews. As well as many family and friends from far and wide.

Dan was predeceased by his Sister - Rosa Lee May Wiese; Father - Rudolph Wiese,; Mother - Esther Wiese; Sister in Law - Barbara Wiese; Great Niece -
Alea Wiese.

Dan was born and raised in the Westlock area. After graduation and receiving four major scholarships he attended the Fairview Agricultural College. Before he started farming with his brothers - Dan worked out at the University Agricultural Farms. He spread his wings and went away to Australia for several months as a young man. He peeled potatoes on a ship to make ends meet while there - once home he remarked “hope I never have to do that again..”. He also traveled through the US researching his family tree. Once he returned from his travels from far away places he started farming with his brothers - Max and Jim. He loved the work and the great friendship and camaraderie he had with them. He told of good memories and wonderful times with his brother John as well. Dan is 16 years younger than his oldest brother, Jim. He once said that he did not want to live late into his years - as how would he live life without the companionship and friendship of his 3 brothers.

Once he retired, his brother Max, got him working with him, on old steam engines. He said “I really didn’t know if I would like it much..”. Dan spent endless hours at the shop refurbishing and rebuilding many types of steam engines. Many with his brother Max and many on his own. Even after a debilitating accident that made it difficult to work with his hands - he carried on with his love of the old engines.

Dan was a good man. He was a kind man. Dan was a man of very few words. He always thought thru before he spoke - and when he did speak - he spoke volumes. He was not a religious man - he was a spiritual man that followed the Golden Rule - Do Unto Others as you would have Them do Unto you.

COVID will make us wait to celebrate his life with his friends and family. There will be a memorial service planned at a future date.

In lieu of flowers - donations can be made in Dan’s name to STARS or the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
