Raymond Steele

It is with great sadness the family of Raymond Steele of Barrhead, Alberta, announces his passing on the morning of January 16th at age 75.

Raymond is survived and fondly remembered by his sweetheart and devoted wife of 56 years, Sherri (nee Phillips) along with their sons Sean Steele (Michele) and Shane Steele (Jenny), and daughters Shannon Steele (Ken) and Noreen Steele; he leaves beloved grandchildren Alanna Breitkreitz (Andrew), Stephanie Hause, Dylan Wolkowski, Jesse Steele, Darien Steele, Lacey Steele, Carissa Steele, Keegan Wolkowski and Chace Trott, to also mourn his loss. And, of course, his favourite little people (his great grandchildren): Mya, Bree, Jill, and Luke Breitkreitz, and Siles, Rowan, and Octavia (Hause) will always miss their Papa.

He was Born on July 15, 1949, in New Westminister, B.C. to William and Sadie Steele (predeceased),Raymond was one of four siblings and is survived by brother David Steele (Leslie) and is predeceased by his sisters Kathleen Sound and Maureen Mcwhinnie.

In September 2023, Raymond was diagnosed with Cancer, stage 4 Lymphoma, yet against all odds had the strength to beat it and return home. However, a short year later, he contracted pneumonia and was taken to the hospital. He unfortunately became too weak and peacefully passed away after only a few days in the hospital. Although his family is left with profound sadness and heartbreak, his memory and the legacy of the “man made of Steele” will never be forgotten. Raymond wore many hats: husband, dad, Papa Extraordinaire, brother, uncle, friend, neighbour and boss man!

He had a passion for his thoroughbred race horses and his favorite place to be was at the racetrack turning red in the face, fist pounding the table cheering on his beloved horses.

He was an extremely intuitive, strong-willed, intelligent, highly respected, and no-nonsense type of man with a sarcastic type of humour that would take even the most seasoned person off guard. We find comfort in the many stories shared about the man who laughed the hardest at his own jokes.

Rest In Peace. We will see you again someday.

Love, the entire family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM from Barrhead Senior Citizens Drop In Centre.
