Joseph Kassian
It is with sadness that the family of Joseph Kassian announce his passing on November 25, 2023, at the age of 93 years.
He will be remembered and missed by his wife of 71 years, Olga, his children, Carol (Randy), Alan (Carol), Val (Terry), his nine grandchildren and his eighteen great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents (Nikola and Hashka) his siblings (Jennie, Philip, Annie, Steve, and Walter) and his granddaughter Rebecca.
Joe was born on the farm his parents homesteaded in the Tudor area (near Thorhild, Alberta). He finished grade 10 at Tudor School and went to work in the oil patch. He then returned to farm in the Tudor area where he and Olga raised their family while he continued to work on the rigs and pipelines and Olga managed the farm. Together they were active in their church and their community. They greatly enjoyed spending time with their family, friends, and neighbors. Joe believed in making the best of things, even when it was hard. He found joy in the small stuff. He had a quiet but strong faith, and he lived that faith every day through his kind words and actions.
The family would like to thank Dr. Noel DaCunha for his many years of care, the staff and homecare nurses at the Newthorad Lodge and the staff at the Smithfield Lodge.
Funeral services were held at the Thorhild Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 325 4th Ave. Thorhild at 10:00 AM Monday, December 4, 2023, with interment at St. Michael’s Cemetery (Tudor).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in the name of Joseph Kassian to the Thorhild Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church or the Hearts for the Golden Age Society.
