Mike Grimmeyer
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Grimmeyer, on December 1, 2024, at the age of 94 years old.
Mike is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maureen, and children, Michael (Vanessa) & Marla. He also leaves behind 3 beautiful granddaughters, Kate, Emma & Anik. His younger sister, Mary, and many nieces and nephews are still living in Varoslod, Hungary.
Mike was born in Varoslod, Hungary in 1930, he decided to move to Canada in 1956. When he came to Canada, he stayed with his Uncle Frank Grimmeyer in Fawcett, Alberta. He then moved in with Frank’s daughter Elizabeth Kaliel and her husband Jack. He worked on the farm and as a cat operator for Bud Kaliel for a few years. In 1960, he moved to Westlock, and started working for Volske Construction, which started his lifelong career as a Carpenter. He married Maureen in 1964, and not long after Michael & Marla were in the picture. Mike retired in 2000 and enjoyed spending time on his son’s farm helping with building and fencing.His true love in his retirement years was his granddaughters. He spent as much time as he could babysitting Kate & Emma and looked forward to when Marla would come home for visits and bring Anik to see them. They always enjoyed grandpa time as he would let them build stuff in the garage, play with tools, and never have rules. Mike enjoyed seeing and hearing of all the accomplishments of his Granddaughters from sports to school achievements. Kate followed in grandpa’s footsteps and soon will be a carpenter as well.
Following Mike’s wishes, there will be no service.
