ANDERSON, Aleta Ruth
(née Newkirk)
February 10, 1949 – March 25, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Aleta Ruth Anderson (née Newkirk) on March 25, 2025, at the age of 76. She was born on February 10, 1949, in Saugerties, New York to a large and loving family, including her parents Erwin and Elizabeth, and her siblings George, Hiland, Beverly, Johnny, Raymond, Donald, and David.
On September 22, 1973, Aleta married Reid B. Anderson. They moved to Colinton, Alberta, and raised six children together. They taught them the importance of love, faith, hard work, resilience, and, most of all, family. Aleta was a faithful Jehovah's Witness, a beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and friend.
Aleta deeply loved classical movies, television, and music. Her cooking was memorable—she did everything in huge portions. Sometimes, it tasted spectacular, sometimes it was a work in progress, but it was always made with love. She loved to sew and collected sewing machines. She had a presence that could not be ignored. Above all, she was devoted to her family.
Aleta is survived by her children, Timothy (Andrea), Donalda, Esther, William, Sarah, and Michael; four grandchildren, Lexi-Mae, Freya-Dawn, Jackson, and Ryker-Reid; sister, Beverly; brother, Donald; and numerous nieces and nephews. Aleta believed in the resurrection hope and joyfully awaited her future reunion with her beloved husband, Reid; her parents; her brothers, George, Hiland, Johnny, Raymond, and David; and all her loved ones who passed before her.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Athabasca Community Chapel, 3403 - 48 Avenue, Athabasca with interment in Colinton Cemetery. Following interment, a Celebration of Life was held in Colinton Community Centre, AB-663. Our preferred florist in Athabasca is Flowers by Christina.
Though she may no longer walk beside us, her love and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
