Westlock woman fined for fatal crash that killed girl, 5, and man

WES provincial court

WESTLOCK — On March 12, a 59-year-old Westlock woman pleaded guilty to driving left of the centre line that caused a collision and resulted in the death of a five-year-old Westlock girl. An adult male died in hospital about two weeks later as a result of the collision.

An agreed statement of facts were read into the court. Crown prosecutor Eric Mosley and defence lawyer Ashlee Kirby entered a joint sentencing submission.

Westlock Court of Justice heard that Marilyn Badduik was driving her vehicle approximately four kilometres north of Clyde on May 14, 2024, when her vehicle went over the centre line and collided head-on with a 2013 Ford Fusion.

A victim impact statement of the father of the five-year-old girl was read into court by the Crown. The mother of the girl read her victim impact statement to the court.

Mosley said that no drugs or alcohol were involved in the collision. Both vehicles were travelling at 100 km/hr.

Justice Carrie-Anne Downey fined Badduik $2,000 under the Traffic Safety Act and prohibited her from driving for three months.

“This was a tragic accident with tragic consequences, plain and simple,” said Downey.
