WESTLOCK – Police have released a photo of a suspect after Westlock RCMP say they have seen an increase in stolen bicycles.
On Oct. 7, at about 10 a.m. Westlock RCMP responded to a report of three bicycles that had been stolen from a location on 102 Street. Westlock RCMP are now asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
Westlock RCMP currently has two bicycles in its possession. If you are a victim of bicycle theft, you are asked to go to the Westlock RCMP detachment at 10807 104 Avenue and provide a description of your bicycle.
Westlock RCMP would also like to provide the following recommendations to ensure the proper protection your property:
-Lock all doors/windows.
-Install security systems: consider installing security devices such as camera, alarms and motion sensors. Visible cameras can help deter potential thieves.
-Take photos of your valuables from multiple angles.
-Write down serial numbers and keep them in a safe location.
-Document unique items such as stickers, any damage or distinguishable features.
-Keep items stored inside or in a locked area such as a shed or garage under video surveillance.
-Avoid displaying expensive items where they can be easily seen from the street. This includes keeping garages closed to prevent showcasing tools or other valuables.
-Ensure proper lighting, using exterior lighting, specifically motion-activated light around entry points and in dark areas outside your home.
-Trim landscaping: overgrown shrubs and trees can provide cover for thieves. Keep them trimmed, especially near windows and doors.
-Use reinforced locks: invest in high-quality deadbolts for doors and secure locks for gates and fences.
