CLYDE – Council unanimously passed a motion to remind residents not to park in the alley at the post office as opposed to putting up a no parking sign.
Village of Clyde Chief Administrative Officer Jaye Parrent told council during their regular meeting on Dec. 9 that a resident who lives on 50 Avenue brought forward a concern about people parking in the alley when running inside the post office to get their mail.
Mayor Charis Aguirre suggested that council not be in a hurry to put up a no parking sign.
“When it came to stop signs, we didn’t make that decision right away. When there were complaints we thought about it, we talked about it, and we brought it back.”
Coun. Danielle Dillman and Deputy Mayor Alma Cruise Irwin both said one person complaining isn’t enough for council to take action and agreed if there are more complaints then they should revisit the issue.
“I think if there are more complaints it may need to be addressed,” said Irwin. “One complaint, like Danielle says, is not a reason to make a big change. It is valid though.”
Dillman suggested that council put a reminder in the village’s newsletter that if people are going to park in the alley when going into the post office, they should make it quick and not obstruct the alley.
Cruise Irwin suggested the village place a notice on the information board.
“We should monitor the issue and see if it gets worse,” said Coun. Alex Strembesky.
He made a motion that council put the reminder in the newsletter and post a sign on the information board. It was passed unanimously.
