WESTLOCK – A viral TikTok video is trending showing how an American woman prepared a turkey dinner, appetizer and dessert for $20 and The Town and Country is calculating how much the same dinner would cost in Canada.
“I don’t have the words to describe how I’m feeling,” said the Dollar Tree Dinners TikTok woman when responding to the viral response.
The meal includes mac n' cheese balls with dip as an appetizer. A turkey casserole is the main dish, prepared in a large casserole dish. Caramel apple bars are the dessert selection.
What would it cost in Westlock to prepare the same meal?
The Town and Country shopped at several budget stores to find the best prices for the ingredients to prepare this meal.
In Westlock, the casserole alone costs $20.07 without tax to make if you have to buy all the ingredients. Without the milk the total cost would be $17.09 without tax.
The recipe would be great as a way to use leftovers or have a turkey casserole at the holidays that would feed a family. Make the mashed potatoes and layer into the casserole dish. Add the can of beans drained, ( or any vegetable). Then pour over the gravy mix. Shred the cans of turkey and spread evenly.
Make the stuffing with the juice from the turkey cans and add in the cranberries (you could adjust the amount of cranberries or leave them out).
Top the casserole with the stuffing and cranberries mixture.
Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
