WESTLOCK – RCMP have arrested armed and dangerous fugitive Rick Ernest Atzler without incident on Oct. 3.
Atzler, 31, of Westlock, was wanted for assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and pointing a firearm.
Westlock RCMP S/Sgt Jeff Sehn told Town and Country Today that Atzler was arrested late Thursday in the hamlet of Opal with assistance from Redwater RCMP and K Division Police Dog Services. Police had obtained a Feeney Warrant that gives RCMP the power to go onto someone’s property and home to arrest a person who is wanted on a warrant.
Atzler was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled in court on Oct. 7, at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert.
A warrant for Atzler’s arrest was issued after Westlock RCMP were dispatched to a call on Sept. 19 about a man who had threatened to kill someone and pointed a firearm at that person. He fled with the firearm before police arrived.
