Legion Branch 97 makes a big donation

On April 14th, Legion Branch 97 gathered for a business meeting that ended with two organizations making their dreams come true. The branch used the Poppy Fund to donate $12,000 to Westlock Health Care.

On April 14, the Westlock Legion Branch 97 donated to two deserving organizations in the community.

The branch used its Poppy Fund to donate $12,000 to Westlock Health Care. Megan McCoy-McLeavin accepted the donation on behalf of the centre to purchase a new glide scope. This medical tool will be used to help visualize airways during surgery. President David Hall says that the facility was in need of this life-saving tool for the Emergency Room and that this was "more for the community and our way of giving back."

They also gave $2,000 to the Hope Resource Centre to help provide essential services to rural and remote communities. Hall says that the Hope Resource centre does an "excellent job of helping people who would otherwise fall through the cracks."

This donation comes from the events such as casino and bingo nights that are attended by members of the Westlock and surrounding areas community. Sylvia Yoder, who accepted the funds at the meeting, said she is grateful for the Legion's support, and not just financially, but "they support by understanding the needs that we are navigating and the ways that we are assisting the community."

Hall is thankful to the community for all their support with the Poppy Fund and events that they can put back into the services that help the town.
