BREAKING: David Truckey wins council seat

Truckey previously served 17 years on council
WES - David Truckey

WESTLOCK- David Truckey is returning to council after defeating four other candidates in the Westlock byelection.

Truckey earned 615 votes, defeating Benita Pedersen (255 votes), Laurie Hodge (244 votes), Alair Plett (54 votes) and Derrill Rayner (73 votes).

Truckey previously served 17 years on town council, starting in 2004. He stepped down from council in 2019 but decided to return to council and run in the 2024 byelection. Truckey is currently a Pembina Hills School Division trustee.

Truckey said his tenure as town councillor is one of his greatest personal accomplishments, during which time, he connected with people in the community, worked to better understand the daily needs for municipal services like water and wastewater, recreation, and maintaining streets that residents use every day while providing a safe and caring community.

In his many years on council, Truckey was involved in several committees including the Westlock Regional Water Services Commission, the Westlock Regional Waste Management Commission, Homeland Housing, FCSS, and the Municipal Library Board.

“Of the many community projects I was involved with along the way the one that I was most involved in and proud of was the expansion at Pembina Lodge,” said Truckey during the campaign period. “(It is) a great addition to the seniors housing needs in our community.”

More to come.
