Thinking about running in the upcoming Municipal Election? Here are some things to consider: Under the MGA, elected officials have the duty to: • Participate in council meetings, committee meetings, and meetings of other bodies you are appointed to by Council. • Participate in developing & evaluating the policies and programs of the municipality. • Consider the welfare & interest of the municipality as a whole. • Bring to Council’s attention anything that would promote the welfare or interests of the municipality. • Obtain information about the operation or administration of the municipality from the CAO. • Keep in confidence matters discussed in private at Council meetings until discussed at a public meeting. Vacancies Division 1 – One Councillor Division 2 – One Councillor Division 3 – One Councillor Division 4 – One Councillor Division 5 – One Councillor Division 6 – One Councillor Division 7 – One Councillor Division 8 – One Councillor Division 9 – One Councillor Eligibility to run for Municipal Council include: • Must be at least 18 years of age on nomination day. • Must be a Canadian citizen. • Must have been a resident of electoral division of Athabasca County for which you intend to run for the six months preceding nomination day.
