Christa Lipski, beloved mother, Oma, friend and neighbour, passed away on March 4, 2025 at the age of 89, with family by her side. She will be missed by her children Hartmut, Claudia, John, late Wilbur, Arliss and Rose, and their families. She brightened the lives of many friends and neighbours with her good deeds and adventures.
Christa was born in Germany on February 25, 1936, and joined the household of her brother, grandparents, and relatives. She immigrated to Canada in 1956 and was reunited with Karl Lipski, who she had briefly known in Germany. They were married on August 31, 1957 in Edmonton. They were blessed with three children: Hartmut, Claudia and John. They operated a mixed farm at Meadowview, with Christa managing household duties, farm chores and raising the children. Loving and caring for others was Christa’s superpower. In 1975, Christa and Karl opened their home to three additional children: Wilbur, Arliss and Rose. When the children moved on, Christa offered childcare for many other families. Christa was widowed at the age of 68 years, after 47 years of marriage. She remained on the farm for several years thereafter, relying on family and friends to transport her to town for groceries and to attend church. She tried apartment living for a while, but at the age of 81 she decided to buy a little house and make that her retirement home. She lived independently under the watchful eye of neighbours, family and friends.
In honour of Christa’s life, a funeral service will be held at Rose Garden Chapel 5326-48th Avenue, Barrhead, at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, followed by a luncheon at the Barrhead Seniors Centre. Burial will be at Meadowview Lutheran Cemetery. Twp.Rd. 580 RR 50.
Memorial donations may be sent to Meadowview Lutheran Historical Society, Box 4012, Barrhead, AB T7N 1A1.
