Laura BOON
Our family’s cherished matriarch, Laura Louise Marie (Noel) Boon, recently from Edmonton, formerly of Westlock, passed peacefully on March 3, 2025. She was hospitalized in January with critical health issues that eventually took her life. She was a vibrant and engaged 94-year-old.
Laura was born in 1930, in Viking, Alberta, to John Gorman Noel and Frances Rose (Kowalski) Noel, the first of six children, and she loved to call herself the “First Noel.”
She married the love of her life, Ted Boon, and they farmed on the Boon homestead, Pembina Valley Farm, north of Hazel Bluff near Westlock. They had a productive mixed farm where they raised four children.
She is survived by her children: Lois (Rod) Thompson of Prince Albert, Wendy (Greg) Clarahan of Edmonton, Trish (Dan) Boon-Anderson of Lac La Biche, and Leonard (Fiona Chesney) Boon of Edmonton. Her grandchildren: Ryley (Carey-Ann Burnham) Thompson of St. Louis, MO, Ila (Paul) Gayowski of Red Deer, Graham (Amanda) Clarahan of Edmonton, Jenna (Ben Rix) Clarahan of Edmonton, David Boon of Calgary, and Nicole Boon of Edmonton. Her “bonus” grandchildren: Ishan Chatterjee and Riyanka Chatterjee of Lac La Biche. Her great-grandchildren: Brycen and Kinley Gayowski of Red Deer and Wesley Clarahan of Edmonton. Her two sisters, Audrey May (Louis) Modin, now of Edmonton, Agnes Doreen (Lindsay) Humphries of Ottawa, brother, Gorman Douglas (Dorothy) Noel of Westlock, and one brother-in-law, Allan Piercy of Campbell River. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Predeceased by: Her husband of 42 years, Edgar (Ted) Boon, of Hazel Bluff/Sunnybank, sister-in-law, Rhoda Mary Boon, and mother-in-law, Lois Winifred (Adkins, Boon) Grant, of Edmonton.
Her parents, brother, Lyle Gerald (Ann) Noel, sister, Theo Jeannine (Al) Piercy, aunt, Stella Marie (Noel) (Clarence) Gamber, two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, nephew, Richard Noel; niece, Donna (Noel) Fowler, and granddaughter, Amanda Boon.
Laura would tell you that she had a good life, filled with family, community, fun, homemaking, farm life, travel, dancing, singing, baking, reading, flowers, gardening, diva clothes, and fashion accessories. Her superpowers were her love of people and helping and encouraging others. Never would she hesitate to greet a stranger with one of her smiles or just a wave. She would never pass up an opportunity to genuinely complement and acknowledge others.
Our family would like to announce her Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 15, 2025, 2:00 pm at Hazel Bluff Community Hall (5 miles west of Westlock on Highway 18). Live Streaming is also available at www.westlockfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Hazel Bluff United Church.
