James (Jim) W. Chamberlain
It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of Jim Chamberlain on Feb. 19/25, at the Barrhead Health Centre, at the age of 80. Chief Warrant Officer Jim Chamberlain was born July 13, 1944, in Coaticook, QC, the second oldest of 15 children. He left home as a teen, found work in a Québec logging camp, and at 17, in 1962, he joined the Cdn. Army and served in three armoured regiments. He loved the life, travelled the world, and achieved his goal of becoming the Regimental Sergeant-Major of Lord Strathcona’s Horse (RC). Recognizing his exceptional service, dedication, and devotion beyond the call of duty,
he was awarded the Order of Military Merit in 1991 honouring his commitment to Canada.
After retirement from the Army, Jim farmed and worked with the Corp of Commissionaires. He became a snowbird in 2005, wintering in his RV in Mazatlan, Mexico, and spending his summers at Thunder Lake and Barrhead, AB.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sandy Russell Chamberlain, his sons, Jay (Janina) and Shane (Cyndi), and their children, Roman, Jasmine, Chanel, Cage and Shelby. He leaves behind his beloved 7 brothers and 5 sisters, and their spouses, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews, and his bonus family, Sam and Chris Russell and their families. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Muriel Chamberlain, and two brothers, Tom and Davey.
During a lengthy stay at the Barrhead hospital, Jim was very well cared for by the doctors and staff. We thank them for that.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 4/25 at 11 AM, at the Chapel of St. Luke and St. John (Protestant), Mons Avenue, CFB Edmonton (Garrison) AB. Luncheon to follow at Sgts & WO Mess. There will be no inurnment at this time.
