Alfred “Red” FRENCH

It is with broken hearts that the family of Alfred (Red) French announce that he peacefully passed away in Edmonton on Sunday November 3, 2024 at 84 years of age.

Red was born in Lamont, Alberta on July 16, 1940. He is survived after 64 years of marriage by his loving wife Joy, One brother Kenneth and his wife Lynda of Ft Saskatchewan, AB. He is also survived by children. Alvin, his wife Susan from Lethbridge, their children Austin French, Brooke & Dalton Houghton of Carberry, Manitoba. Susan Rolph, her husband Tim. Their children Amanda Fuller & her husband Brady, Lane Rolph his partner Alexis all of Williams Lake, BC. JoAnn Komarnisky & husband Dean, their children Preston & his wife Denita, Brandon and his wife Rachel all of Holden, AB. Jason and wife Trisha French, Children Tacee, Tayden, Treytin and Teagan all of Mayerthorpe, Alberta. Also survived by 6 great grandchildren.

Red was predeceased by son Michael, Granddaughter Jennifer Rolph, parents Burleigh & Lillie French, Brother Norman, Sister Eva, In- Laws John and Bea Skaret.

Red was raised in Ft Saskatchewan, AB. He spent many years working road construction before meeting Joy Skaret from Linaria. They were married in July of 1960. Red & Joy lived in Dunvegan, Alberta after their wedding. In spring of 1963 they settled on the farm just north of Linaria where they resided until 2018.Red spent many years farming in the area alongside family while spending winters working in oilfield, construction and land clearing. Red was very involved in the community working on many boards, refereeing hockey, coaching and supporting kids in 4-H. Red’s biggest love was watching his children and grandchildren. Sporting events, Rodeos and Cattle shows took him and Joy all over western Canada to watch their events.

A celebration of Red’s life will be held at Westlock Memorial Hall on Friday November 15, 2024 at 2:00 pm. Thank you to Westlock paramedics, staff at Westlock Health Center and the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton for their care and support.

Donations in remembrance of Red can be made to Stars Air Ambulance or Stollery Children’s Hospital.
