Berkley Ferguson

July 6, 1941, ~ October 27, 2024

With hearts full of treasured memories, the family would like to announce the peaceful passing of our dear Husband, Dad, Pa, and Grandpa, Berkley Ferguson, on Oct 27, 2024, at age 83 years.

He was born Berkley Kenneth Victor Ferguson on July 6, 1941, in Milden, SK., but was raised at the nearby town of Dinsmore. His parents were Ken and Alberta Ferguson, and together with brothers Gordon and David, they lived a happy life surrounded by a huge extended family. As a young man, Berkley was a telephone linesman, and met a pretty young student teacher named Anita Erickson. After Anita finished teacher’s college, the young couple got engaged, and eventually eloped to get married when they were both 19 years old. Berkley and Anita’s first home was in Senlac, SK. After some time, Berkley wanted to own his own business, so took over a gas station, The Gasliner, in Provost, AB. Their two boys, Patrick and Robb were born there.

Dad’s true calling was to be a farmer however, and after searching the province for the right land, they settled on a farm in the New Pine Creek area. Soon their daughter Candyce was born, completing their family. While cattle and grain farming, Berkley ventured into local politics, serving as County Councillor for 21 years, and eight of those were as Reeve. He worked hard to improve roads and create strong communities, and for that, was well-respected.

Family was Berkley’s most prized possession, and he will be forever missed by: his dedicated wife and partner of 63 years, Anita of Boyle, AB, son Pat [Audrey] Ferguson of Boyle, AB, son Robb [Cindy] Ferguson of Wabamun, AB, daughter Candy [Al] Nikipelo of Boyle, AB. Grandchildren: Ian [Sarah] Ferguson, Kristen [Carter] Antal, Cody [Ashley] Ferguson, Brock Ferguson, Lacey Nikipelo [very special nurse], Colton [Emily] Nikipelo, Connor [Shayla] Nikipelo. step grandchild: Destinee Evancusky. Great Grandchildren: Anna, Grant, Kaleb, Tenley, Rhett, Blake, Myles, Olivia, Lincoln and Oaklynn. Brothers Gordon Ferguson and David [Janice] Ferguson, nieces and nephews, and a large extended family.

Berkley was a good friend, good neighbor, and a very well-respected member in both the Boyle and Athabasca communities. Such a fun Dad and Grandpa, the grandkids have so many wonderful memories!

We will honour Berkley with a Celebration of Life, to be held at The Boyle Community Centre on Nov. 22, 2024 at 11:00am, led by his family. In lieu of floral arrangements, donations may be made to the Boyle Healthcare Auxiliary, Box 330, Boyle, AB. T0A 0M0.

There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, the light remains. Berkley’s light will always be bright.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank from the bottom of our hearts: Dr. Van Der Merwe and the wonderful staff at Boyle Hospital, the Home Care Team and Health Unit Team from Boyle, as well as Dr. Klopper and the nursing staff at Athabasca Hospital. Everyone was so very kind and helpful to Dad as we tried to keep him at home for as long as possible, and all the assistance will never be forgotten by the family.

Rest easy Dad
