The provincial government is asking anglers across Alberta to avoid fishing in rivers, creeks or streams due to high temperatures and low water levels.

An angling advisory is now in place for all flowing and non-flowing bodies of water in Alberta, according to MyWIldAlberta.ca

“We are experiencing declining river flows, low water levels and warm water temperatures in areas across the province. These conditions can cause stress to fish,” states the advisory.

To reduce impacts to fish, anglers are asked to fish only in stocked lakes or ponds and to fish early in the morning when it is cooler.

They are also asked to use single-hook lures and to reel fish in quickly, minimizing handling time and keeping fish wet at all times.
