BARRHEAD - Some 13 teams came out to participate in the Paddle River Golf Young and Old Tournament on Aug.15.
Al Cross and Dean Kochan were the winners of the day, with a score of 68.
The day was quite smoky but everyone who registered showed up ready to play.
“Most of the teams are grandchildren and their grandparents. Some teams are aunts/uncles with nieces/nephews and a few teams are friends or randomly matched for the tournament,” said Tracy Overeem, golf club manager.
Each team consisted of one person 55 years old or older and one person under 16 years old.
The youngest player was nine-year-old Chesney Braucht, and the oldest player, Henry Lappin, is 83 years young.
The energy was high in the clubhouse while everyone waited for their assignments in team groups.
The teams were announced, and they set off to their designated holes for teeing off.
Tee-off time was 10 a.m. and the golf carts were loaded and ready to go.
Teams had the option of playing nine holes or eighteen holes.
A delicious lunch was served after the first nine holes were completed.
Participation prizes were given to everyone who played, and there was an award for best ball.
“We are giving away a prize for a youth membership for next year,” said Overeem.
The majority of the player under 16 years old were part of the youth lessons group at the Paddle River Golf Club or part of their youth league.
