Barrhead's most senior minor hockey team sits fifth in North Eastern Hockey League in Tier 1 division after weekend action

BARRHEAD - The Barrhead U18 Steelers doubled up on the Athabasca Hawks 6-3 at home on Dec. 7 in North Eastern Alberta Hockey League Tier 1 action.

The win was slightly mirrored by less than a handful of obnoxious Barrhead fans, who were thrown out of the game midway through the second period. Although the referee asked two or three fans to leave, the entire section returned a few minutes later. The game was then delayed several minutes as the officiating staff decided whether to give the home team a bench penalty because the fans returned.

The game resumed without incident after a member of the Steelers coaching staff talked to the fans in the section. An Athabasca parent also lectured the section of fans during the second-period intermission.

The next night the Steelers lost to Drayton Valley on the road 7-5. The loss evened the Steelers' record at five wins and five losses, with one tie, good enough for fifth place in the seven-team division. The Steelers' last game before the holiday break is a Dec. 20 road game against the league leaders, the Edson Octane Controls.
