Town of Barrhead councillors approved a request to close a portion of 57th Avenue to accommodate the Alberta Trappers Association's Rendezvous & Outdoorsmen Show.

BARRHEAD - Town of Barrhead councillors approved a request to close a portion of 57th Avenue temporarily closed during their July 9 meeting.

Chief administrative officer Edward LeBlanc said the roadway would be closed from 48th Street to the lane west of 46th Street on July 12 and 13th from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day to accommodate the Alberta Trappers Association's (ATA) annual Rendezvous & Outdoorsmen Show.

The ATA represents over 2,200 trappers and various corporate entities and related businesses within the province. It is also the only government-recognized association for trapping in Alberta.

The events will occur at the Barrhead Agrena and Agricultural Society grounds.

"It is something we are quite excited about, and it has been about two years in the making," he said. "[The Rendezvous & Outdoorsmen Show] is expected to bring upwards of 500 visitors into our community."

LeBlanc added the municipality has granted similar requests from the Barrhead Composite High School graduation committee and the Barrhead Agricultural Society for Blue Heron Fair Days.

Coun. Dausen Kluin asked if the road closure would be advertised.

LeBlanc said yes, but due to the timing — the town only received the request — advertising would be limited to its website and social media platforms.

He added that the municipality would also notify the community's first responders, police, ambulance and fire department of the temporary road closure.
