TIGER LILY - T&M 4H Club operates out of the MTM Ag Society Hall in Tiger Lily and is celebrating its 60th anniversary on Saturday Oct. 19 with a special supper and awards night.
“Each year our club has an awards night, and we celebrate the achievements of the members from throughout the year,” said Sophie MacKenzie, general leader of the T&M 4H Club.
“This includes the Grand Champions, Sportsmanship, Communications and Public Speaking with prizes for our top junior, intermediate and senior members.”
There are 15 members for this year’s activities, and 60 years ago, the T&M 4H club started with 12 members.
“It started back as a beef club back in the '60s and then they kind of took a little bit of a turn where beef wasn't as popular. They wanted to keep the club alive, so they turned to sewing and foods to try and keep membership going,” stated MacKenzie.
“It's bounced back again, and we are a multi-club, so some of the projects that we have had over the past few years include beef, sheep, rabbit, canine, woodworking, small engines, foods, sewing, crafting, and slash scrapbooking."
There are several community events that the T&M 4H Club support through volunteering and hosting including a Shrove Tuesday pancake breakfast where they fed 140 people at the last event.
They get involved in the FCSS toy drive and the road clean-up on the first weekend in May where they cleaned 25.6 kilometers between Thunder Lake and the gravel pit near Fort Assiniboine according to MacKenzie.
This is a multi-generational club with strong community supporters and members.
“Norman Ion was a leader back in the day and his daughter Barbara with husband Matthew Almost and their children have all been involved in the club,” shared MacKenzie.
“Isla Vanloom was the previous General Leader, and her kids were part of the club.”
“Chonknechts and Spitzers have been long time supporters of the club.”
T&M 4H Club is especially grateful to the MTM Agricultural Society for letting them have access to the hall and supporting the club.
