Barrhead Orioles winning streak ends at two

BARRHEAD - The Barrhead Orioles' two-game win streak came to an end, losing to the North Central Alberta Baseball League leading Parkland Twins 9-5 at home on July 10.

The Twins got onto the scoreboard, scoring the only run of the first inning and scoring another run in the top of the third.

However, their lead would be shortlived as Barrhead broke the shutout, scoring three runs in their half of the inning.

In the fourth inning, the teams exchanged runs, with Barrhead shortstop Jamie Visser scoring with a stand-up on-field homerun.

In the fifth inning, Orioles' starting pitcher Kayden Rentz got into trouble loading the bases before giving up two runs when Parkland batter hit a double before Barrhead got the final out.

In the bottom half of the inning, it looked like the Barrhead would respond with some runs of their own after the first two Orioles got on base with a single and a walk and then got into scoring position with a double steal.

Unfortunately, the home team could not capitalize on their early-inning success before ending the inning with an infield pop-up and a double play.

In the top half of the sixth inning, the Twins would score two more runs before Visser would score his second on-field home run of the game, sliding headfirst to home plate.

Regrettably, Parkland would score two more runs in the seventh inning, blanking the Orioles.

The loss puts Barrhead's record one game under .500, at seven wins versus eight losses, good enough for fourth in the six-team league.

Barrhead plays the Parkland Twins again on July 17 at home. First pitch is 7:15 p.m.
