Barrhead Art Club features Stephanie Shochat-Gruss

Stephanie Shochat-Gruss showcased her paintings at the Barrhead Art Club Gallery on August 9

The Barrhead Art Club and Gallery hosted a reception on Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring artist Stephanie Shochat-Gruss.

“I use oil pastel, acrylic, and coloured pencil and like to mix the mediums in my art, which you see in the art displayed,” said Shochat-Gruss.

Shochat-Gruss has been painting since she was a child and has been doing it professionally since the 1990s.

She has incorporated her art into a business where she does art therapy, works with children and does projects. Shochat-Gruss holds art hives where people are invited to use any media to create art.

She has created events where she paints the outline of a mandala on the sidewalk and lets other people fill the template.

Originally from Germany, Shochat-Gruss has done projects where she has made rooms more calm and has done installations where you can walk through, engaging the public and creating a spark.

“Mostly when I do my art it is often sometimes something is working in me and I let it out,” said Shochat-Gruss.

Paint is the medium she works in the most and has experience with sculpture. The artist has used more 3D art in her projects.

Shochat-Gruss provides Counselling and Expressive Arts Therapy through her company Expressive Arts Space.

The Barrhead Art Club began in 1981 and has grown from a grassroots club to a building location at 4814 53 Avenue in Barrhead.

The gallery is open two days a week, displaying community members’ art, and is run by volunteers.

The healthcare centre and businesses around town also display art from local artists.

Barrhead Art Club members contribute to charitable events and run regular workshops.

A featured artist is highlighted in a monthly gallery-themed show.
