Pembina Hills School spends $1.2 million on facilities projects in 2024

There were 14 major projects completed in 2024 through-out the Pembina Hills School Division.

BARRHEAD – Tracy Tyreman, Director of Facilities for Pembina Hills School Division, and his team have been busy this year completing several projects around the division.

He explained that for Infrastructure and Capital Maintenance and Renewal Projects they are at $1.2 million.

“They're talking about for Capital Maintenance and Renewal projects, it (the funding) could actually double or triple over 2024 amounts. We will know in April,” said Tyreman.

There were 14 major projects completed in 2024 through-out the Pembina Hills School Division.

In the spring Barrhead Composite High School had water leaks. The roof membrane had to be repaired.

The roof was repaired through the summer months.

The Barrhead Library entrance was renovated to accommodate accessibility.

“I received a letter that a lady was having great difficulty getting into the BES (Barrhead Elementary School) and library,” explained Judy Lefebvre, Vice-chair of the Pembina Hills School Division Board.

Lefebvre told the board that actions were taken swiftly to address the access challenges.

The bus lane was re-done behind Barrhead Elementary.

Barrhead Elementary School had the gym floor refinished, and lines painted to accommodate resident access for things like pickleball.

This makes another gym accessible for rentals and bookings and that is already happening through the school.

Barrhead Elementary also had exterior door hardware replaced.

The classroom renovations were completed, and flooring was replaced.

“Over the next two years were going to be redoing their flooring, new cabinets, new flooring in the amphitheatre and washrooms will probably happen next year,” commented Tyreman.

“I'm putting new bleachers in this summer and painting it.”

In Clyde the skate shack was removed, and the cement pad, still in good shape, was left after the parent council requested the pad not be removed.

There are plans to construct an outdoor classroom next to the pad and make use of the cement.

The playground at Busby School had some work done, finishing up work that was needed when the school construction happened.

Dunstable School received a face lift with asphalt repairs and new paint. They also had the PA system updated.

At Westlock Elementary the foundation was structurally in great shape but needed an overlay to preserve it so that was completed in the summer.

In addition, Westlock Elementary had parking lot repairs completed.

The Fort Assiniboine School had the outdoor classroom foundation repaired, and windows replaced.

Pembina North Community School had ground works done with sewer and roof drainage upgrades and parking lot and sidewalks repairs.

Neerlandia had playground equipment installed.

RF Staples High School had sidewalks and asphalt overlays completed as well as an air conditioning core replaced.
