BARRHEAD – It is Food Drive time in Barrhead.

The Barrhead & District FCSS Society has organized a town-wide food drive to fill the shelves of the food bank to help those in need starting April 2 with pick-ups on April 4.

“There are many people that need to access the food bank right now and the number of people using the food bank each week are growing,” said Heather Fisher, FCSS Food Bank Coordinator.

The Food Drive is scheduled to be completed in two evenings, April 2 and April 4.

On Wednesday, April 2, volunteers will deliver Food Bank donation bags to residents who have registered to be part of the food drive.

Each bag is labeled with an information tag, outlining pick up date and time for food donations.

These bags will be left at each residence on the evening of April 2.

The bags will be left in a visible spot at the front entrance.

On Friday, April 4th, volunteers will return to the residences, between 6pm and 8pm and pick up any bags that have been left out for collection.

Volunteers collect visible donation items left out at the front door.

Volunteers won’t be knocking on every door on April 4.

Participants are expected to have their donations ready for pickup.

Volunteers will be treated to a pop and hot dog donated by Freson Bros. and the Barrhead Pembina West Co-op after the donation pick-ups on April 4.

Freson Bros. are hosting a delicious community BBQ in the front of the store in the parking lot on April 4 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. where people can either give a cash donation or a food donation for the food bank.

The Barrhead FCSS Food Bank is grateful for the participants who donate and the volunteers who make this food drive a success each year.

There is a list of recommended items to provide for the food bank. The Food Bank needs canned goods, toilet paper, cereal, peanut butter, Hamburger Helper, pasta, small bags of rice, and school snack items.

Please check expiry dates on items. Food is accepted within six months of its best before date.

The food bank is not accepting produce or dairy products currently.

Cash donations are always welcomed.
