Boyle clean up day to beautify the Village

Spring clean up is going to be a little easier for people in the Village of Boyle this year, thanks to the Boyle Community Betterment Project Committee.

On Saturday, May 14, the group, headed by Marilyn Meichel, will roll up and down the streets collecting whatever junk the community has left out.

“We are going to meet at 10 a.m. then start going thorough every street in Boyle, and whatever is put out on the curb we’re going to pick up,” said Meichel.

The goal of the Betterment Committee is to clean up Boyle, “and start making it look a little bit more attractive for the community, the people who live in it, and for tourists as well,” she said.

Boyle residents are encouraged to go through their homes, collect all their junk and garbage, and put it on the curb the night before (Friday, May 13). In the morning the clean up crew will slide by to take it away.

Meichel says she hopes to get some more volunteer support, as the numbers are looking a little daunting.

“We are going to have refreshments for the volunteers, and depending on how many show up, I will take them out for lunch,” said Meichel.

Karen Keyes and her Mr. Rototiller swampers are planning on lending a hand.

“We are offering our truck and our services,” said Keyes.

Of the material to be collected, Keyes asks that yard trimmings and grass clippings wait until May 20, when their contract begins.

“We always start our contract (with the Village) the weekend before the long weekend,” she said.

Keyes said she is excited to help. “That’s what we do – we’re landscapers – so we are like, ‘Woo ho, bring it on.’”
