WESTLOCK – The highly-anticipated Christmas Light-up and Parade is happening on Friday, Nov. 22 with a wide variety of sparkling seasonal activities for residents to enjoy.

“We have something for everyone. There will be things for the little ones, and you know the ones that are little in spirit,” said Councillor Laura Morie, one of the committee members.

“We think we have the formula to kick off our holiday season.”

The party starts with the parade at 6 p.m., running starting on 107 Street, heading onto 100 Avenue and then turning onto 104 Street.

There is parking available surrounding the parade route.

Westlock’s Citizens on Patrol is sponsoring delicious free hot dogs and hot chocolate at Memorial Hall after the parade, during which many of the planned activities will take place.

There will be pictures with Santa, the Grinch, Elsa and Olaf.

“They were quite a hit last year. Elsa had quite the following,” said Morie.

Carollers Sandy and Julia, a local duet, will be singing their hearts out to get attendees in the Christmas spirit.

Games and activities, including cookie decorating and crafts, will be available to delight the kids while the adults have some visiting time with old and new friends.

Hayrides will be happening after the parade that will start off from Memorial Hall.

The Christmas Light-up and Parade has been held on the fourth Friday in November for years to really start the season off.

The festivities get everyone in the mood for the markets and the events that light up Westlock and the surrounding areas through to January.

The whole event is organized and hosted by the Westlock Community Events Committee.

“We have quite a few organizations in the community that are going to participate,” said Morie.

“There will be a lot of visiting and mingling indoors at the Memorial Hall.”

Last year there was great weather, and the turnout was terrific with people coming in from Westlock County and surrounding areas.

This year the fun, sparkle, laughs, characters and lights will dazzle everyone who attends.
