Robideau is no stranger to Freson Bros. His first management role was in Hinton for four years, and then he managed a store in Grande Prairie for 10 years. Now, having moved to the store in Barrhead, he started his journey in the community on August 5 of this year, and he and his wife Karri are excited for the opportunity and to join the local community.
“Freson Bros. Barrhead has been a part of our organization since 1986,” Robideau shares. “I learned about the community’s many strengths and attributes through conversations with the store’s previous manager and partner.”
Having been employed by Freson Bros. since the age of 16, Robideau grew up seeing the brand’s commitment to quality and to its customers.
“I like Freson Bros. because it is an Alberta company,” he says. “We constantly strive to do everything right – we commit to Alberta ranchers in the Butcher Shop and provide only Alberta beef, pork, and chicken. All our bakery products are handcrafted from our own sourdough starter. Freson Bros. is distinct from big-box stores in that we emphasize family and community involvement.”
Freson Bros. began in 1955 in Hinton, Alberta, founded by Frank Lovsin and partners. Initially a butcher shop, it expanded over the years into a grocery chain. The company grew by opening stores in various Alberta towns, adapting to industry changes, and focusing on quality products and customer service. Today, it remains a family-run business with over 1,200 employees, and it continues to evolve in the competitive grocery market.
Each department is known for offering something truly unique to shoppers.
• The Butcher Shop provides a large selection of Alberta-farmed meats. The roots of the brand are evident in the wide variety of expertly butchered meat products. Butchers can cut to order upon request. When running, the Butcher Shop’s 5 for $25 meat sale helps families stock up affordably with a range of sausages, steaks, pork chops, chicken wings, and more.
• The bakery or Mother Dough Bread Co. is known for its famous sourdough bread, handcrafted pies, and treats all made with only 100% Alberta Flour. Whether you are in the mood for a pie bursting with fresh fruit or a succulent slice of chocolate torte, you’ll find what you crave in the bakery. Here is a fun fact; did you know serious bakers name their mother dough? The Freson Bros. mother dough is named Charlie and his birthday is coming up on November 17 and there will be quite a celebration.
• There is a focus on fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables in the produce section including local products whenever available. Shoppers get the “farmers market” feel even during the colder months.
• Deli delights! Freshly prepared and convenient meals, sandwiches, and salads are perfect for families who are short on time but still value home-cooked flavours. Pick up a whole pizza, get a meal with a protein and sides built to order, grab or create your own salad – there is something for everyone.
Each department is staffed with friendly team members that are happy to help with questions, product knowledge, efficient check out, bagging, and transporting groceries to vehicles (upon request).
Robideau couldn’t be prouder to join Freson Bros. Barrhead and alongside the team, continue to uphold the local focus, community engagement, and tradition of excellence.
