WESTLOCK – Nominations to run for the seven seats on Westlock County opened on Jan. 1 and since then Westlock County administration has been busy preparing for the municipal elections this fall. Municipal Clerk and Returning Officer Lisa Schovanek provided a detailed overview of the election process in her report to council on Feb. 11.
Advance voting for Westlock County will be held at the Westlock County Administration office on Oct. 9 and Oct. 17 from 2 to 7 p.m., and Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are located at 10336 – 106 Street in Westlock.
Election day is Oct. 20 with polls opening at 10 a.m. and closing at 8 p.m.
Voting for trustees for Evergreen and Pembina Hills School Boards will be held at the county office at the same time. The school boards will receive and retain all nomination papers and appoint their own returning officer. The county will charge the boards for associated costs incurred during the election process.
The nomination period closes on Sept. 22 with the deadline to submit nomination papers at noon on Sept. 22. Late applications won’t be accepted.

County councillors serve a four-year term, which starts the first meeting of council following the election. The reeve and deputy reeve are elected each year from the seven councillors.
