WESTLOCK — Raevyn Shae Coulson, 31, appeared in Westlock Court of Justice by CCTV from a remand center in Edmonton on Jan. 22 to plead guilty to unauthorized use of a vehicle. Coulson had been charged after failing to return a Jeep she had borrowed.

A student defence lawyer appeared on her behalf and told the court that Coulson described her situation as “having a bad year.”

When sentencing Coulson to 30 days in jail, Justice Gordon Putnam agreed with her and said, ‘It sounds like you had a bad year as you put it. Let’s make 2025 a better year. You stay away from us, and we will stay away from you.”

“Deal,” said Coulson.

Court heard that her boyfriend died in April 2024, which caused her to relapse to meth and crack cocaine use.

She was charged with taking a vehicle without permission after she borrowed a friend’s Jeep to go to a library in Edmonton.

The Crown prosecutor told the court that Coulson was in a relationship with the son of the vehicle's owner, who had taken her into her home in Vimy while he was in jail. Coulson requested to borrow the vehicle for a few hours on June 17, 2024, but by the evening of June 18, Coulson had not returned the vehicle.

The owner of the Jeep told Coulson she needed her vehicle back and Coulson said she would be back in Vimy by 10 p.m. The next day, the woman texted Coulson again and asked where she was.

The following morning, Coulson finally replied and said she had fallen asleep but would leave right away for Vimy.  Coulson didn't, so the vehicle owner continued to text her on June 19, 20, and 23asking for her Jeep back. Coulson didn’t respond, so on June 25 the woman reported to police that her Jeep was taken without consent. Police called Coulson and she denied taking the Jeep, or even driving it.
