HAZEL BLUFF— The Hazel Bluff Community Centre will be seeing the return of its highly anticipated annual play, running from Feb. 6 to 9.
This year, attendees will see the cast perform, “Four Old Broads on the High Seas” by Leslie Kimbell—coincidentally, a sequel to last year’s production, “Four Old Broads.” The play will run for three evening performances, along with one matinee, continuing the story introduced in the 2024 production.
This year’s performance will pick up where the previous play left off, following the adventures of four women navigating both literal and metaphorical storms. The play’s themes of friendship, resilience, and personal discovery have struck a chord with audiences, and the sequel promises to deepen the narrative with new characters and developments.
Rose Bibby, production director for the play and community member, has immense passion for the local project.
Bibby has been director for the last 5 years, though she said she “fell into the role.”
Hazel Bluff community centre is not new to the production world, with the first play to occur happening in the original building in 2007—a production titled, “Here come the cows.” Since this production, the group has primarily put on western-styled plays with talent sourced from community volunteers.
This year’s performances will be held over three evenings, with a dinner option featuring locally nicknamed “best stew in the valley.” Dinner is included in this evening ticket price for $50. For those seeking a cheaper option, don’t fret. There will also be a matinee performance without dinner on Sunday, Feb. 9, costing attendees $30.
The production continues to serve as a fundraiser for the Hazel Bluff Community Centre, which supports local theatre, music, and visual arts initiatives.
