YOUNG, Audrey Darlene (BOON)

November 14, 1936 - June 19, 2024

It is with sadness that We, the family of Audrey Darlene Young, announce her peaceful passing on Wednesday June 19th, 2024, at the age of 87 years. (She would say in her 88th year).

Mom is survived by her children; Susan (Conrad) Braun, Bill (Cindy) Young, Julie Sherman, Jennifer (David) Young Mandrusiak, Paul Young, Judy Young, Julien Young; and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Young.

She was predeceased by our Dad, Henry Young, our siblings; Michael Young, Teresa Young, and our brother-in-law Gary Sherman. She was proud of her 31 grandchildren; Mary (Mark), Mark, Opal (Cameron), Jamie, Michael, Jessie (Chris), Keith, Brian, Dorian, Mark, Andrea (Trevor), Brandon (Deena), Mathew (Barbara), Danny (Alanna), Kristy (Roger), Kelly (Chris), Melissa (Micheal), Rebecca (Colin), Kyle (Lauren), Enrique, 22 great-grandchildren; Trey (Gaylen), Madison, Emerson, Amber, Lucas, Magdalina, Jack, Hannah, Haley, Holly, Chloe, Makayla, Mercades, Parkes, Aria, Ella, Quinn, Raya, Ezra, Reihm, and Muhammed, and 1 great-great-grandchild; Gauge.

Mom would say, “Nobody is a number and I want every family member mentioned by name.” Special mention also to Joe Williams, who called her Mom, and Gabe Plamondon, who was her special friend. Mom had a different idea of what family was. She had her “typical” family, but we all learnt that it would always be extended for people who needed someone more than us. Our children and spouses had us to love and cherish them, but there were people who needed her more than us. She believed we knew we were loved and chose to give more to the people who were struggling and needed more of her spirit, kindness, and support, sometimes spiritually and sometimes monetarily. We know they will miss her smile, wisdom, advice, caring, and love. We are the best and largest example of the blended family.

Mom had a deep faith and was part of the Franciscan Order. She was called to service working with Indigenous communities in Fort McMurray, the Inuit community on the Arctic Coast, the disabled community by starting a housing coop for the disabled (Kuanna Housing Co-op) in Edmonton, and mission work in Mexico. She was an advocate for people with disabilities and was active in social justice. Mom loved reading, she read your typical autobiographies on journeys of hardships and journeys of faith, but surprisingly she loved mysteries and intrigue. In her later years she started to paint with acrylics. It always surprised us because when Dad was alive, we remember she could not paint a wall without it needing to be redone. She also enjoyed any time she could get her hands dirty in the garden and loved watching her small garden grow and produce.

Your family will miss you!
