OLGA LOPEZ

February 17, 1941 - August 22, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Olga Lopez announces her peaceful passing on August 22, 2024, at the age of 83 years, at the Westlock Hospital, following her sudden battle with colon cancer. Olga bravely fought her cancer with the support of her faith, family and friends.

Olga was recently predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Curtis, in January, 2024. As well, she was predeceased by her parents (Emil and Emilie), siblings (Wanda Eckardt, Alfred Berwald, Bruno Berwald), brother and sister in-laws, nephews and nieces. She is survived by her sister, Agatha Grundler (Dapp) and extended family, nieces and nephews.

Olga came to Canada with family in the 1950s and settled in the Westlock area. She became a teacher and taught in Westlock and Jarvie. Her education degree took her to Germany to teach where she met her future husband, Curtis Lopez, who was in the R.C.A.F.

Upon Olga’s return to Canada, she married Curtis in 1971, and the couple lived at various C.F. air bases until they settled in Dapp to farm. Olga’s love of gardening could be seen in her beautiful flower beds. Her talent for handiwork could be seen in the crocheted blankets she gave to family members. Her love and caring for family were evidenced in the annual summer barbeques that were filled with games, great food, and laughter. Family, friends, and neighbours were always welcomed. Olga and Curt shared a love for travel and spent many years cruising all over the world with family and friends. Olga was a selfless caregiver to her parents as well as her husband when his health declined in 2014. Olga was truly kind, loving, and thoughtful giving back to her family, church, and friends in any way she could.

A special thank you goes out to the staff at the Westlock Hospital for their care and compassion over the past several months.

A life well-lived and well-loved.

A memorial service will be held at the Westlock Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:30 am. A light lunch will be served at the Westlock Legion after the service. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Lutheran World Relief, or a charity of your choice.
