Esther Joyce Lane (Dionne)

July 14, 1955 - June 14, 2024

68 beautiful years

Born; Lac La Biche, AB

Passed; Barrhead, AB

It is with profound grief and sadness that we share the news that Esther Joyce Lane passed away peacefully on Friday, June 14, 2024, surrounded by her closest family. Esther leaves behind many special people who are feeling an unimaginable heartache that she has been taken from them much too soon. Esther was a beloved wife of 48 years to her husband Bill Lane.

Esther is survived by her 3 beautiful children, of whom she was endlessly proud. Her oldest daughter Dawn (Paul) de Champlain, her son Jesse Colin (J.C.) (Stacey) Lane, and her youngest daughter Jaimie (Jeremy) Ochremchuk.

She was the most amazing mom, teacher and best friend to us all. “Her absence is like the sky, spread over everything.”

Esther was so fortunate to have been blessed with 9 precious grand children and they were the absolute lights of her life. Delaina, Lane, Daynia & Sienna de Champlain, Caden & Chloe Lane, Danika & Trinity Ochremchuk and Baylee (Michael) Jamieson. Spending time with her grand kids was always so very important to Esther and it brought her so much joy. Whether she was in the stands cheering them on at sporting events, spending time together at her most favourite place, Thunder Lake, sharing her love of crafting & sewing, or just showing them what a hard work ethic is. Esther ALWAYS made time for her grand kids and they absolutely adored her. In doing so, she has gifted them with so many special times and memories. Their hearts are broken at the loss of their oh-so-loved, “G-dawg”, as she was affectionately called by them.

Esther is survived by her dear mother Amelia Dionne, and 6 loving siblings who are all incredibly saddened she has been chosen as the first to leave them. Her sisters, Elaine (Allan) Visser, Diane (Dale) Krasnow, Debbie (Kevin) Cartwright and Jody Dionne. Her brothers, Alan (Kim) Dionne and Tim (Alanna) Dionne. Her brothers-in-law Doug (Jill) Lane and Greg (Susan) Lane.

They will all miss her dearly and are all thankful for the fond memories and ways Esther has touched their lives. Esther also leaves behind some very special friends & coworkers, who will never look at the pack-med machine the same way again.

We take comfort in knowing that Esther was anxiously greeted in heaven and wrapped in a nice warm hug by her loving dad, Luke. Also there waiting for her with open arms was her father and mother-in-law, Earl & Jessie Lane and her old walking buddy, her dog, Nanook.

We will remember Esther and her great love for the outdoors. If she wasn’t sitting at her sewing machine, you could find her outside meticulously tending to her yard. She loved her flowers and always had such beautiful flower beds and pots. She took a lot of pride in keeping everything looking so nice. Esther also loved quadding and sledding, and her trip to the Golden Triangle in 2023 with a few of her grands, will always be a most treasured memory for them. In the evenings, she loved to go for a sunset boat ride and then sit around the fire and enjoy a roasted hot dog or a bowl of popcorn.

Family meant everything to Esther, and she was everything to our family. Esther instilled in us the importance of family and has created the most united family bond. We will continue to honour and strengthen that bond in her memory. Esther showed her love by being there for us, teaching and doing things with us & for us. Because of this, she has left a huge hole in our hearts. But she has also left behind such a beautiful legacy of love and lasting impressions that will forever be etched on our hearts and souls. There will never be a day that she is far from our thoughts.

Esther gave everything she had and fought so courageously to stay with us. There is nothing in this world that she wanted more. Although letting her go has been, by far, the hardest thing we have ever done, we are all trying to find peace in knowing that she is no longer suffering. Esther’s family would like to acknowledge and send a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Tawfik and the Nursing Staff at the BHCC. We are grateful for the compassion and care you showed Esther during these last months.

A Celebration of Esther’s Life will be held Saturday, August 10, at 1:00 pm at Summerdale Hall.
