BRUNO HANDEL

Bruno Handel peacefully passed away at the Keir Care Centre in Barrhead at the age of 80 on the morning of August 24, 2024.

Bruno was born in Weilensee, Germany on April 2, 1944 to parents Jakob and Hulda Luise (Erfle) Handel. Bruno was the second youngest of five children. Bruno was predeceased by his parents Jakob and Hulda and two brothers Wilhelm and Jakob. Bruno will be sadly missed by his brother William Handel and sister Erica Pacey.

Bruno’s family immigrated to Tiger Lily, Barrhead in 1957 via steam locomotive, a seven day overland journey, from Quebec City where they made landfall on the SS Neptunia cruise ship that disembarked from Hamburg, the transatlantic sailing took two weeks.

Jakob Handel purchased a Blacksmith shop in Barrhead that existed across from the present day Freson grocery store. Bruno apprenticed under Jakob as a Blacksmith then attended NAIT to become a journeyman welder. Bruno became the sole owner & operator of the blacksmith shop under Handel Welding & Smithing Ltd.

Bruno was very close to his brother William and sister-in-law Annette Handel. Bruno’s nephews and nieces are: Mark, Jacob Joseph, Tanya, Archibald, Robert Handel and Simon, Liese, Koren Pacey. Bruno was well known and loved by family and friends in the Barrhead and Westlock communities.

Funeral Service Postponed to a later date.

Internment of ashes will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery with a light luncheon to follow in the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted at St. John’s Parish.
