Elvin Blosser
Elvin Blosser, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, entered into the presence of his precious Savior on December 4, 2024.
Dad was born to Aquila and Mabel Blosser on July 17, 1936 in Sterling, Illinois. He was raised on a farm, in a faithful, Bible-believing Mennonite family, and treasured his generations-long Christian heritage. He gave his life to Christ at age 12, and began a life-long journey of loving the Word of God and the God of the Word.
Dad graduated from high school in the spring of 1954. After a two-year agricultural program at Goshen College in Indiana, Dad applied for Voluntary Services, an alternative to the draft for conscientious objectors. He served with VS for two years in Calling Lake, AB, including time at a sawmill. He fell in love with both the land, and the millwright’s beautiful daughter, Norma Elgert, from Smith, AB, and decided to make Alberta his permanent home. Dad and Mom were married in 1961, and began a family that eventually included four children.
In their early years of married life, they made the move to Edmonton, where Dad pursued a university degree in education. After graduation, Dad began his 28-year-long teaching career in Athabasca, mainly in high school biology. He and Mom were always very active in the church throughout their lives. They moved in retirement years to Linden, AB, where they operated a Clock and Craft shop, and enjoyed many opportunities of travelling around to their increasingly scattered family. They loved their final years in a condo at Linden Lodge, surrounded by many precious friends.
Dad enjoyed wood-working and sailing, and in later years, spent many hours in clock-making and repair, but his life-long passion was teaching the Bible, which he did for most of his adult life. Dad and Mom were married almost 60 years before Mom passed away in 2021. They cherished each other, as well as their growing family, and lived contented lives of faithful love and service to Christ and to others.
Dad stayed the course, ran a good race, and has entered the rest of the God he entrusted with his life. We rejoice that his faith has been made sight. He will be greatly missed by children: Sharon (Randy), Kelly (Donald), Carla (Laurie) and Kevin (Dana); thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings: Darrell (Diana), and Elaine (Jay), and sister-in-law, Norma, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Laverne, sister-in-law, Joyce, and nephew Tom.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Savage, and the many wonderful nursing and support staff of the Three Hills Hospital for their compassionate care of Dad in his last weeks, and for the kindness shown to us.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Linden Lodge, Box 150, Linden, AB T0M 1J0.
Services were held Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Linden Mennonite Brethren Church. Elvin was laid to rest in the Linden Cemetery.
