BOYLE – An alleged stabbing at a campground south of Boyle has resulted in a charge of attempted murder against an Edmonton man.
Boyle RCMP responded to a call that a woman had been stabbed “at a campground south of Boyle,” Aug. 29 around 8:30 p.m. A release on the incident from RCMP, received Sept. 3, did not give an exact location, but it was later confirmed the alleged stabbing occurred at a provincially-operated campground, 20 km south of Boyle in Thorhild County.
One charge of attempted murder against Ethan Cooper, 32, of Edmonton, was filed by Boyle RCMP in the days following, but not without some effort and some luck, according to RCMP.
The suspect abandoned the area after the crime occurred, fleeing into the nearby woods, the release said. He was able to evade RCMP officers, police dogs and the Edmonton Police Service helicopter, Air 1, and was not located and taken into custody until the next day.
The RCMP release goes on to say that while two members from the forensic identification service were driving home on Highway 28, north of Redwater, at about 5 p.m. the next day, they noticed a man who fit the description of the suspect walking along the highway.
Redwater RCMP and Redwater Integrated Traffic Services were called in to assist in the arrest, and did so without further incident.
Police say they are not seeking any other suspects in this matter, stating they do not believe the alleged stabbing was a random act.
Cooper was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and is scheduled to answer to the attempted murder charge Sept. 8 in Boyle Provincial Court.
