Westlock – After 12 months the RCMP Major Crimes Unit’s investigation into Westlock’s lone homicide of 2020 remains ongoing.
On June 9, the one-year anniversary of the homicide, Alberta RCMP Media Relations manager Fraser Logan said the investigation continues and there’s nothing he can share publicly. Earlier that day Westlock RCMP Staff Sgt. Al Baird said he also hadn’t received any updates on the case.
“There’s nothing that we’re able to update you on at this time. I can say that it’s still an active investigation,” said Logan June 9 after talking directly to the investigating officer.
At 10:30 a.m. June 9, 2020 Westlock RCMP received a call that a body had been found in the front lobby of one of the Westlock Estates buildings at 10540-103 Street. The RCMP Major Crimes Unit was called in to assist and interviewed area residents, while a canine team searched the neighbourhood.
After an autopsy was conducted June 11 by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton, RCMP confirmed the death was a homicide.
Police have identified the victim, although his name hasn’t been released.
RCMP ask that those with information contact the Westlock RCMP at 780-349-4492, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.P3Tips.com or via the P3Tips app.
