Okotoks clinches tops in HJHL South Division on penultimate weekend of regular season

A season series sweep has pushed the Bisons to a fifth straight season on top in the South.

The Carstar Okotoks Bisons clinched first in the Heritage Junior Hockey League South Division standings with a 4-0 victory over the High River Flyers on Saturday at the Murray Arena for their fifth win of the season in the Battle of the Foothills.

Okotoks scored four unanswered in the third period with captain Jake Snashall notching a pair against his former team along with goals from Adam Kirkpatrick and blueliner Hunter Cobb.

Netminder Dylan Walker, starting for the first time since November, made 24 saves for his second shutout and ninth win of the season for the Bisons.

On Friday, Okotoks outlasted the Wheatland Kings 5-4 in a playoff-like seesaw battle at the Murray Arena.

Sam Callahan notched his second hat trick in his past three games with Seamus Garagan breaking the 4-4 deadlock with a third period marker.

Okotoks wrapped up the three-game weekend homestand by corraling the Mountainview Colts by a 4-2 score on Sunday.

Snashall, Kirkpatrick, Easton Dean and Owen McFarlane tickled the twine for the home team with Connor White making 25 saves for the rookie netminder's 20th win of the campaign.

The final homestand of the regular season sees Okotoks host the Ponoka Stampeders and Rocky Rams on Feb. 7-8.

Okotoks still has an outside shot at first overall with the North Division-leading Sylvan Lake Wranglers owning a four-point advantage over the herd with two games left on their schedule.
