This year, some familiar faces will take on new roles with the local school board.

Trustee David Truckey was elected as this year’s chairperson at the Pembina Hills school board Meeting on Sept. 4.

“I look forward to a great and wonderful productive year for the board, the division and administration,” said Truckey.

"We realize we will have celebration moments along the way as a group and we will no doubt have some challenges and trying times as well. Collectively, we will navigate through.”

Trustee Judy Lefebvre was elected vice chairperson for this year after serving as chairperson for the last three years.

“My three years of leadership has been carried out to the best of my ability. I have enjoyed my role and the support of the entire board,”  Lefebvre said.

Trustee Melissa Hanna, representative for Swan Hills and Fort Assiniboine, has resigned as of Aug. 31, having moved out of the area.

The Pembina Hills school board determined that there would not be a by-election in light of the reasonable time of the regular election schedule.

Trustee Victoria Kane and Lefebvre said they look forward to getting involved in Hanna’s areas of responsibility and showing their support to everyone in those communities.

Lefebvre has already been in touch with both principals, previously supported by Hanna, to understand their expectations.

School board trustees’ time is spent on several committees, over and above the work they do on the Pembina Hills school board, contributing their insight into many areas of the community.

At the Sept. 4 meeting there was a review of the 26 committees and groups with appointments for the trustees to those commitments for the next year.
