WESTLOCK/BARRHEAD — Pembina Hills trustees passed a motion during their Dec. 13 meeting to approve a $2,000 donation towards the 44th annual Barrhead Rotary Music Festival, which will cover the entry fees of all students from the school division.

Trustees received a letter from Barrhead Rotary Music Festival secretary Jill Bourgeois requesting the $2,000 donation towards the event, which will be held March 6-11 in Barrhead.

"This is an exciting opportunity for you to support the fine arts and youth in our community. We are incredibly thankful to have community support to host the event," Bourgeois wrote.

Pembina Hills has provided the festival with a $2,000 donation for the past three years, as well as the use of Barrhead Elementary School and Barrhead Composite High School as venues.

Trustee Maureen Schnirer commented about how rich of an experience it was for local students to take part in the festival.

“Eleanor Hall School in my division won gold for the choir (this year)," she said. "It was their first year going in and the children were elated.”

She said the festival was a first-class event, adding, "I hope we can continue to support such a wonderful thing in the Barrhead community."
