BARRHEAD - Fire destroyed a Vega home in a morning fire on Thursday, Sept. 19.

Barrhead Regional Fire Services (BRFS) received a report of a structure fire at 7:54 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found the house adjacent to Highway 661 engulfed in flames.

BRFS chief Gary Hove said that not much is known about the cause of the fire except that they believe it began in the front entrance.

"The good thing is that no one was injured, and our members did a good job containing the fire and stopping it from spreading to the neighbouring home," he said.

About 10 BRFS members responded to the fire with two apparatus. Other emergency personnel included associated ambulance, Barrhead RCMP members, and a County of Barrhead peace officer. Due to the fire response, emergency officials closed Highway 661 temporarily.
