BARRHEAD - Baseball and softball teams playing on the ball diamonds at the Summerdale Community Hall will have a comfortable place to strategize and stay out of the elements as they await their turn at bat, thanks to two new dugouts.

Greg Gramlich of the Twilighters senior slowpitch baseball team said during a short July 31 unveiling ceremony that the two structures, which cost upwards of $15,000 to construct, would not have been possible without several community sponsors, including the Barrhead and District Agrena Society, Barrhead Timber Mart, Barrhead Home Building Centre, and Swift Mix Concrete.

In addition to materials and efforts from the sponsors, several members of the Twilighters, headed by Lee Graham, donated several hours of their time to build the structures. Construction started in the spring and was completed in early July.

This is the second time the Twilighters have led such a project. In 2015, two dugouts on the Summerdale Community Hall's other ball diamond were completed.

Gramlich said the Summerdale Community Centre diamonds are very busy throughout the summer, with at least 11 adult senior teams using the diamonds two to three times a week. This does not count the youth teams in the County of Barrhead's county ball program or other tournaments booked through the community centre that use the facility.
