Heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm watch

Heavy rainfall expected with thunderstorms averaging 70 to 90 mm

Environment Canada issued a heavy rain warning on July 25 along with a continued severe thunderstorm watch for Barrhead, Westlock and Athabasca.

Rain is expected to be heavy along with varying severity of thunderstorms today.Total rainfall amounts will range between 70 to 90 mm of rain. Some areas may receive exceed 100 mm of rainfall.

Saturday the heavy rain is expected to subside and heavy rainfalls flash floods can occur. Roads may have water pooling which can be hazardous.

Environment Canada warns to watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.Thunderstorms are continuing to happen throughout the morning, some may be severe.

The evening of July 25 and into July 26 during the day shows a forecast of heavy rainfall and will taper off Saturday morning (July 27).

Thunderstorms will continue through the evening of July 25.

The atmosphere conditions are right for thunderstorms to develop.

These storms can produce large hail, damaging winds and rain downpours.

Lightning is a danger to people and animals.

The smoke will also continue to be widespread today making air quality unhealthy.
