One injured in a fire that destroys garage

Fire started in garage, spreading to another outbuilding, damaging two homes

BARRHEAD - One person was injured in a Saturday, Oct. 19, evening fire that destroyed at least one building and damaged three others.

Barrhead Regional Fire Services (BRFS) firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire on 55th Street near 55 Avenue at 6:37 p.m.

When they arrived, BRFS chief Gary Hove said they found a garage fully engulfed in flames and a nearby shed on the adjacent property heavily immersed in fire.

Hove said the fire also damaged a power line, which caused the line to spark.

"The fire also significantly damaged the two homes, with the most damage being to the one [of the outbuilding] where the fire started," he said.

Hove added while the damage to the homes was significant, it was repairable.

He also said that one individual was injured in the fire and was taken to the hospital via a private vehicle, suffering from undisclosed burns.
