Across the province, Albertans will be receiving a test alert from the National Public Alerting System at 1:55 p.m. Nov. 20.
“Nobody likes an alert disruption, but tests such as these allow us to fix system issues,” said Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services Mike Ellis in a Nov. 18 press release.
“These tests, which are typically conducted every May and November, help ensure the system works properly so Albertans can receive life-saving information during an actual emergency, including tornados, wildfires, floods, and Amber Alerts.”
In order to receive the alert on a mobile phone. It must be connected to either an LTE 4G network or higher or Wi-Fi with the Alberta Emergency Alert installed. If a device is set to silent, the alert will still display but the notification sound won’t go off.
“The test alert is also a great time for Albertans to talk to their family, friends and colleagues about emergency preparedness and to start making a plan,” said Ellis.
“Consider discussing: how you would have responded if the test alert had been real, if you have an emergency plan and emergency kits ready for your household, and what arrangements have been made for pets or livestock?”
The provincial government has a variety of emergency response tips and tricks available on its website here.
“I encourage all Albertans to make emergency preparedness part of their routine. Together, Albertans can be prepared and sae if an emergency arises.”
